"What's Going On"? 2-22-12

Okay my friend's I have a question to ask....Is Google Friend Connect shutting down the first of March?
I certainly hope not...wouldn't they at least inform us somehow?
Or is this a hoax to join another blogger?
I have had two email's telling me to switch over from Google. Does anyone know of this?
Hope to hear from you soon.

  1. I'm pretty sure it's just a hoax. I JUST joined and have received no such notice from google. ANd think of it this way. Google's too successful a financial enterprise to have any need of closing. In fact, I was reading something last week that mentioned that many people are gradually moving from Facebook to google connect. I'd throw the notices into spam.

And if you're still concerned, write google. They would answer.

  2. It is being discontinued for Wordpress blogs, not Blogger blogs. At least not yet. I have a feeling that it might though. I think they want everyone to use Google+ to connect now.

  3. From what I have read, Google Friend Connect will not be working with blogs (e.g., Word Press, Type Pad, etc.) that are not connected with Blogger. However, it should be working with those people who have Blogger Blogs.

However, Google is encouraging everyone to switch over to Google +, which I refuse to do because it operates much like Facebook, and I don't do Facebook. Also, those who do not have Blogger blogs will be required to use Google +, since Google Friend Connect will no longer be available to them as of March 1, 2012.

Of course, no one really knows what will happen until March 1st. Hopefully, there will not be much commotion on the matter. In the meantime, I'm not going to worry about it much.

Hope this helps answer some of your concerns.

  4. Hi Dee,
It would seem that, at this stage anyway, it is only closing down on sites that are not on blogger.
This is what I found on google.

"■Google Friend Connect—Friend Connect allows webmasters to add social features to their sites by embedding a few snippets of code. We’re retiring the service for all non-Blogger sites on March 1, 2012. We encourage affected sites to create a Google+ page and place a Google+ badge on their site so they can bring their community of followers to Google+ and use new features like Circles and Hangouts to keep in touch."

I think to be on the safe side, Id be looking at Google+ for the future/.

    cheers

So that's why I and thousands more went to Linky. You can also get more followers this way. Check it out! Hugs Loretta
